A Restaurant In Amsterdam Introduced ‘Quarantine Greenhouses’ For Its Guests

A restaurant in the Netherlands, Mediamatic ETEN, has found a solution to stay open and serve its customers while enforcing social distancing. Its diners are seated inside individual greenhouses.

This measure is only in the trial phase, but the vegan eatery in the Oosterdok neighborhood of Amsterdam hopes to make the capsules official with permission from the state, which has been under nationwide lockdown since mid-March. The trial service is only being offered to family and friends of staff, and all upcoming reservations are sold out, according to the restaurant’s website.

The resultant five glass dining domes, called serres séparées (“separate rooms” in French), allow two to three diners to enjoy a four-course, plant-based meal alongside the picturesque Dijksgracht canal. Waiters pass dishes through the door from a safe distance, and to further ensure social distancing, only groups that live in the same house are permitted to share the pod.

“It’s super cozy, it’s really cozy, it’s nice and the food is delicious,” diner Janita Vermeulen told Reuters.
