DIY Cup Aphids Traps

There are many pests and diseases that may attack your garden plants. You can fight a lot of them using homemade solutions. When it comes to aphids that want to attack your tomato plants, you can try these diy yellow cup sticky traps.

Many bugs are attracted to color and aphids are no exception. Yellow seems to be their color, so it’s easy to trick them into a trap.

Among other advice, gardener Jim from Jim Long’s Columns has some fantastic tips on nurturing your tomato plants to help ensure a successful growing season.

Supplies you will need to make this trap for aphids:

  • yellow plastic cups
  • broomstick-sized stick
  • thumbtacks
  • Tree Tanglefoot
  • measuring tape
  • marker
  • hacksaw

The cups are coated in Tree Tanglefoot (Don’t substitute something else, Tree Tanglefoot is the only thing that doesn’t wash off and keeps catching plants) and this makes them sticky. The thumbtacks are used to hold the cups in place over the broomsticks. Replace the cups once they are coated with trapped aphids. This is a simple solution that gets the job done.
