Home Depot Is Selling Wisteria Trees For Just $23

Japanese wisteria is a super pretty flowering tree with purple, pink, blue and white bulbs that begin blooming in Japan in late April. If you can’t make it halfway around the world, however, Home Depot is selling root stock of the beautiful tree for just $22.49.

Unfortunately, the retailer is showing that the item is currently unavailable at the moment, though you can request to receive an email once they’re back in stock. If you’d rather not wait, however, you can also snag wisteria root stock on Amazon for the same price. It’s even eligible for Prime shipping.

Where to plant Wisteria tree

Wisteria trees need a lot of sunshine—at least 6 hours a day. The tree will thrive in pretty much any soil as long as it’s well drained. Wisteria are also vigorous climbers—if you plant it near a fence, they’ll cling onto it easily, so just make sure that’s the look you’re going for. The wisteria needs at least one inch of water per week to thrive. If you’re buying more than one, make sure to space them out at least 15-20 feet apart.

Take the bareroot Wisteria and soak the roots in a pail of water for a few hours. Then, place it in a whole wide enough for the roots to spread and deep enough so that the crown—where the stem meets the root—is planted one inch below the surface. Wisterias need a lot of support when they’re growing, so properly stake your bareroot after planting.

It is advised to prune wisteria twice a year, and that may include tying some parts of the stems up along with cutting off excessive growth. You’ll have to manage how far out you want the buds to grow, but you can keep it under control.

Because wisteria is a spring-blooming plant, you don’t want to put it where it can crowd out your other spring blossoms. Choose a good spot where it will have its own space to shine. Remember to prune it in the late winter and early summer and you’ll be good to go.
