Spring Cacti Care

The largest number of cacti are active only one-third of the year and it is usually just in the spring and early summer. At that time, your plants have an increased need for watering, and the time is right to be transplanted.

Every two or three years you should transplant your houseplants. The best time for this is in the spring. Here’s how it works:

1. Fill the new pot with granule layer first with thickness of 2-3 cm.

2. Carefully remove the cactus from the pot (wear gloves). Remove the dead part of the roots.

3. Put the plants in a new pot and fill the space between with cacti potting mix.

4. Shake the pot so the soil settles. Moderately water the plant.

It is not recommended the use of common soil for flowers because there could be too much organic matter for cacti. Most commonly used mixture with an appropriate amount of sand or gravel (50/50 for example) which will be sufficiently loose to be easily drained, so that the root gets sufficient nutrients, water and air. You can experiment with different combinations and proportions until you find the one that best suits your conditions.
