Basil reigns as everyone’s most loved herb to have in the garden since it’s very simple to grow, and it generally seeds, so there will be new growth springing up the following spring.
Why should you prune basil?
Basil plants may not always be great producers. At first, you may be disappointed with tall, thin basil plants, but don’t worry. Even if you never thought so, your basil will benefit if you prune the plant. You will see that the basil will become much fuller. Only a couple of clips for every plant can make such a difference.
So how would you go from tall and weak to strong with your basil plants? It is very easy actually!
How to prune basil
Preferably, you’d begin pruning when your basil plant is still very small, with just a single or two stems off of the main plant. If you waited somewhat more and the plant grew bigger, it is the best not to prune the very close to the base of the plant, but on a higher stem. To begin with, find a stem that has a leaf on each side and leaves developing in “the center.”
Take your pruning shears and cut the center growth near its base. You can do this by pinching if you want.
Utilize the basil that you’ve pruned off for a nice salad or your dinner. Meanwhile, those two leaves you left will develop and prosper. In a while, you will see that new leaves are growing of their own, and your harvest has almost doubled simply because you pruned your basil.
