6 Things Your Plant’s Leaves Are Trying Тo Tell You

1. They’re brown and crunchy

The plant is: Thirsty.

Give greenery a new lease on life by watering until the soil is moist, but not saturated. Liza Wheeler, plant expert and blogger at Good to Grow, points out that there’s often a lag between the problem at hand and leaves changing color – but that doesn’t mean you can’t fix the issue.

2. They’re absent

The plant is: Thirsty.

“Underwatered plants won’t put out new growth,” Wheeler says. If your plant is looking a little on the skimpy side, or hasn’t changed much since you bought it, you might need to water more often.

3. They’re yellow at the edges

The plant is: Overwatered.

Tovah Martin, garden expert and author of The Indestructible Houseplant, attributes the sudden ombre look to overwatering. “Water less frequently, but don’t withhold water entirely,” she says. Obviously, your plant still needs a drink, but it doesn’t need to be flooded.

4. They’re leaning to the side

The plant is: Dying for sunlight.

Sun-loving plants are very unhappy if they don’t receive the light they need. You should relocate the pot ASAP.

5. They are unusually pale

The plant is: Hungry.

Maybe you should provide more frequent fertilizer. For instance, if you notice the leaves of your gardenia to be more pale, the plant may need more iron. You can also transfer the plant in larger container. Be careful to go one size larger, and gradually increase the size of the pot.

6. They are misshapen or discolored

The plant is: Overwatered.

Overwatering  is the number one killer of houseplants First you need to make sure that the pot has enough drainage.
